mPoria, Inc. Donating 10% of Consumer Holiday Purchases to Washington State Flood Victims

Donations given on behalf of shoppers who make purchases using their cell phone.

SEATTLE, Wa., May 16, 2007 (BUSINESS WIRE) - Last week's storm forced hundreds of families to evacuate their homes.  Residences have been destroyed and our community members have been left with little for this holiday season.  To support those impacted, Seattle-based mPoria, Inc. announced  today it will donate 10% of all consumer holiday gift purchases made through mPoria’s Mobile Shopping Mall (mporia.mobi), up to $100 donation per order, when the purchaser uses the promotional code "Help4U".  The effort will run through the end of January and donations will be made through the Red Cross storm victims fund.

According to mPoria CEO Dan Wright, “Last week’s weather has been devastating for Washington state residents and mPoria wants to help in a big way. The team developed this idea as an easy way to engage the broader community –where even the smallest of purchases can help those in need.”

Regarded as a pioneer in the rapidly maturing mobile commerce market, mPoria enables brand name and niche retailers to sell physical merchandise to consumers on mobile phones. The company recently launched the newest version of its Mobile Shopping Mall, which allows consumers to shop from more than 80 retailers offering over 5 million products ranging from shoes and apparel, to outdoor sporting goods, electronics, and food.

Wright continued, “The holiday season offers a perfect opportunity for shoppers – who are already making gift purchases -- to automatically support this much needed cause by simply making a few of those purchases through mPoria’s Mobile Shopping Mall.”

Making purchases is simple.  To do it shoppers:

  • Must have their mobile browser enabled on the cell phone.  Once they are able to access the mobile internet, they simply type in mporia.mobi in the cell phone browser and mPoria's mobile shopping mall will automatically launch.
  • Once the mPoria mobile mall website is launched, shoppers can search for products by entering a product name in the search box at the top of their mobile screen.  They can also scroll down the page and browse product categories, which will take them directly to individual retail mobile shopping sites.
  • Once the shopper has selected a product to purchase, they will be guided through a 3-step checkout process.  At the end of this process they must type in the promotional code "Help4U" and 10% of that purchase, up to $100, will be donated to the storm victim fund.

mPoria’s Mobile Shopping Mall is viewable on the majority of all handset devices across all major carriers including Verizon Wireless, Sprint/Nextel and AT&T.  The company serves retailers of all size and product categories, including GameStop, Buy.com, Moosejaw Mountaineering, American ToolBox, and others.
